About
Patricio Bermeo (Cuenca, Ecuador, 1953) is a painter of long trajectory, currently based in Canada. For decades his abstract work has been collected in Ecuador and abroad, and placed in homes, hotels and institutions. Today he paints on commission: each work is an original, created for one specific wall.

The Painting of Patricio Bermeo
By capturing the current world in his painting, Patricio Bermeo (Cuenca, Ecuador 1953) exposes his expressive needs, thus feeding his creativity in abstract sequences. His paintings have a dynamic structure, with a not very wide range of elements, but a bold plastic simplification joins the concept of volume, to allow color to set the field where the artist moves with great craftsmanship and solid aesthetic arguments.
Bermeo's recent painting is like a lens that focuses on the environment and probes nature; but above all the hidden, the hidden, to turn it into the extract of his artistic proposal. It is a pictorial adventure with successive transmutations where his favorite colors vibrate: red, brown, blue, green, in delicate, sometimes transparent ranges, thinning the painting to the limit of what is practiced.
Patricio Bermeo makes chromatic games with superimposed spots that somehow represent, summarily, the transition from the descriptive to the interpretive. This is evident in the color, in the reconstruction of spaces loaded with suggestions that could well be, for example, a schematized Andean landscape, whose intensity deviates from the chronicle or document, as well as from rigid rationalism.
The painter's fantasy does not produce concrete images; rather, the clarity fades, he moves away from the figurative circumstance to which he was linked at the beginning of his career, in favor of an intuitive image of the world. In such a way that in his work these images can be identified as a subjective fact.
All his work revolves around abstract argumentation: painting of essential shapes and a pleasant plastic effect, with a bright, euphoric and contrasting color scheme. But Bermeo's paintings also refer to the way of contemplating and feeling man's relationship with his space, with the intention of "structuring the meaning" of things; which reaches a psychological significance; that is, the idea that runs through the meanders of light and is transfigured into a transcendent image. Painting that touches the inner key, which Kandinsky will talk about.
